(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – Even though Yuba-Sutter residents know the remains of the Hotel Marysville are a public nuisance, a meeting Friday still did not give it that official classification, which could have made the building subject to abatement and possible demolition.

That administrative meeting Friday at the Marysville City Hall included government officials, the owners of the hotel and a panel of ‘three experts’ to hear arguments from all sides, according to The Appeal-Democrat. Mounting public pressure over finding a remedy is a factor, with traffic adjustments around the charred remains of the hotel, and the danger of asbestos and other liabilities.

Marysville City Manager Jim Schaad tells the paper ‘We’re not ready to demolish it…we just want (the option to do so).” He goes on to say if the owners have “other solutions other than demolition, then they need to move forward with those plans.”

However, the Marysville City Attorney presented the case for demolition if the owners don’t begin something in the way of timely action to mitigate collapse and asbestos danger. Meanwhile, the owner’s attorney claimed “The owners have tried to contact the city to remediate & finalize plans to mitigate any issues, to no avail.”

A panel member later told the paper, “a written ruling should be submitted in the near future.”
