(Sacramento, CA) — The recent attempt to recall Governor Gavin Newsom failed to gather enough signatures, so there won’t be a second recall election. Tuesday was the deadline to submit the one-point-three-million signatures needed for the recall to move forward.
Governor Newsom successfully defended against a previous recall in 2021 and was re-elected for a second term in 2022. According to the recall campaign leaders, they originally aimed to remove him from office but later shifted its focus to preventing him from pursuing higher political positions like the White House.
Newsom terms out as California governor in 2027.
