(San Francisco, CA) — After San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall took a bullet during a robbery attempt at Union Square in San Francisco on Saturday, concerns are mounting over the city’s crime levels and homelessness. Mayor London Breed says the Pearsall shooting might affect her track record on dealing with crime as she runs for re-election in 2024, but says San Francisco has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the country. She adds that it’s the lowest it’s been in ten years.

Breed has faced backlash since reducing budgets for the San Francisco police and sheriff’s departments soon after the protests following the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis in 2020.
