(Yuba-Sutter, CA) — The former Mayor of Yuba City and Councilmember John Buckland has announced his candidacy for the District 5 seat on the Yuba City City Council.
Buckland tells The Appeal-Democrat he will run on a “renewed commitment to ensure responsible fiscal management,” as controversy continues over Measure D, a 1% general sales tax which will be on the ballot in November. Buckland goes on to say “My focus will be on making sure our city government lives within its means, just like every Yuba City family has to do” adding, “I will advocate for transparency, accountability, and common-sense budgeting to ensure our tax dollars are spent wisely and effectively. Our residents deserve better than to be continually asked to pay more without seeing real results.”
Buckland served on the city council between 2010 and 2018, and prior to that elected position, was with the Yuba City Police Department for over 30 years.
