(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Yuba City Police Department reports the recovery of a GMC Envoy reported stolen “earlier this month” according to a release.

The victim tells investigators they “believed” 67-year-old George Castro was the suspect and had taken the vehicle to Live Oak. Officers responded to the residence provided and found the vehicle at that location, with Castro in the driver’s seat. He reportedly “armed himself with a knife” and there was a brief standoff with YCPD officers and Sutter County Sheriff’s deputies. The release states thereafter, “Castro fled in the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated that traveled back into the city limits of Yuba City.”

Despite the successful deployment of two spike strips, Castro continued on the vehicle’s rims, eventually stopping at Plumas & Church Streets. Still armed with a knife and refusing to exit the vehicle, SWAT was summoned, at which time he exited and was taken into custody without further incident.

“Castro was booked into the Sutter County Jail for the stolen vehicle, felony pursuit, assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer, brandishing, delaying arrest, and possession of methamphetamine,” according to the release.
