(Sacramento, CA) — A bear cub is dead after walking into a home in South Lake Tahoe. The Bear League says the 16-month-old bear was shot and killed by the homeowner on Monday afternoon. The organization then notified the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which says the homeowner acted in self-defense.

Officials say the bear was shot twice after refusing to back away from the homeowner.

The Bear League calls the shooting “an obvious crime,” saying it seemed like the homeowner deliberately wanted to kill the bear.
