(El Dorado County, CA) — California wildlife officials have confirmed the mountain lion responsible for the fatal weekend attack in a remote area of El Dorado County has been euthanized.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Wildlife Forensics Laboratory matched DNA samples from the scene with those from the lion carcass. The Saturday incident, which left a 21-year-old man dead and his 18-year-old brother injured, marks the first fatal mountain lion attack in California in 20 years. The injured brother underwent multiple surgeries and is expected to recover fully, according to a family spokesman through the Sheriff’s Office.
