(Sacramento, CA) – Yuba-Sutter’s representative in the State Assembly, James Gallagher, has introduced legislation that he describes as “a pause” to the law passed in 2016 – that phases out next year – regarding federal overtime for farm-workers.
Prior to 2019 when the law began to be implemented, California farm-workers did not begin making overtime until 10 hours a day was reached, or 60 hours in a week. Gallagher’s Assembly Bill 3056 would establish farm-worker overtime at 9 hours a day, or 50 hours a week, to account for, he says “the realities of the agriculture industry to ensure that we are benefiting farm-workers and also the family farms that provide food for the world and jobs in agriculture.”
