(Roseville, CA) — A landmark fentanyl-related trial is getting underway in Placer County.

On Monday, the jury was selected in the trial of a 20-year-old man facing homicide charges after a person overdosed on fentanyl in December of 2021. This is the first time someone in Placer County is going on trial for murder in a fentanyl-related death.

Prosecutors say Carson David Schewe knowingly endangered the victim by providing him with fentanyl, adding that two of the suspect’s friends had also overdosed before the victim.

Opening statements and the first round of witness testimony are expected to be heard today.
