(CHP Oroville release) – Around 4:00 AM, on February 24, 2024, officers from the Oroville CHP responded to a distress call reporting a solo vehicle traffic collision on Kusel Road and Custer Lane in an unincorporated area of Butte County.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a vehicle with a deceased female still inside. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver and an additional occupant had fled following the collision. It was determined that both had sustained injuries during the incident.
Follow-up investigations led Oroville CHP officers to a local hospital, where they identified Dakotah Eugene OReily and Richard Lee Overturf, both residents of Oroville, CA, as occupants of the vehicle. Further investigation established OReily as the driver responsible for the collision.
O’Reily has been arrested on charges of vehicle manslaughter and fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in injury and/or death. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The identity of the deceased will be released through the Butte County Sheriff Coroner’s Office.
