(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – Follow up to the school bus collision KUBA reported on during yesterday morning’s commute: CHP reports at around 7:30, in heavy fog, the Meridian school bus driver (with 19 students on board), 64-year-old William Rickett of Marysville – with the rooftop fog strobe activated, – was at a stop-sign on South Tarke Road, looking to turn left onto HWY 20. According to the collision report, he did not see any vehicles approaching and preceded to turn left onto westbound 20. 29-year-old Favian Grageda of Colusa, driving eastbound in a 2014 Ford Fusion, was unable to slow in time and collided with the left rear of the bus.

Two students, ages 11 and 14, were taken to the hospital “for complaint of pain” as was Grageda.

The report notes that Grageda was traveling “at a stated speed of 60 mph in heavy fog” with about 200 feet of visibility, which is 5 mph over the speed limit. One responding CHP officer related that he was only comfortable driving 50 mph with lights on and siren activated.

No arrests have been made at this time.
