(Yuba-Sutter, CA) — According to the Sutter-Yuba Mosquito and Vector Control District, you’re not crazy, mosquitoes are back.
Mosquitoes that are active on warm winter days have awakened to obtain a bloodmeal and they can become quite annoying. This species of mosquito does not transmit West Nile Virus, however, they say effectively controlling mosquitoes this time of year is virtually impossible. Spraying around an individual home will kill some of them, however, overnight more will move in and the problem will be just as bad.
Typically, wintertime mosquitoes are bothersome on warmer, sunny days from mid-January through early March each year.
District officials say applying a repellant and wearing long sleeves/long pants are the best ways to prevent bites when you need to be outside and mosquitoes are active.
