(Yuba-Sutter, CA) — A cost-share partnership between Sutter County and Yuba City for a year-round campsite for homeless individuals has been stymied because the project is no longer eligible for state funds. According to The Appeal-Democrat, the Sutter County Board of Supervisors was scheduled to vote on a proposed memorandum of understanding to enter a cost-share agreement with the city on Tuesday, but the item was pulled from the agenda citing that the project is ineligible for Permanent Local Housing Allocation funds which would have allowed Yuba City to contribute to the site’s operation costs.
The campgrounds are on county-owned property, located on Second St. in Yuba City.
Both Sutter County and Yuba City have seen an increase in the homeless population over the past several years, which has been difficult to address with high costs of housing and a shortage of emergency shelters and transitional or affordable housing.
Officials said that the city and county will continue to look for solutions.
