(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Yuba County DA has issued a release reporting that 70-year-old Juan Carlos Medina of Marysville has been sentenced to 16 years in state prison for the forcible rape and burning of a 59-year-old woman he was living with, when the incident occurred on October 8th. Medina pled no contest.

Medina was arrested after calling for an ambulance, but not until “several hours” after squirting hand sanitizer on her and lighting her on fire during an argument. When Marysville Police officers arrived, the victim was found lying in a bathtub with water running over severe burns that covered at least 10% of her body. Medina told them it happened when she tried to light a cigarette after using hand sanitizer. However, further investigation indicated that story was not consistent with the burns.

Additionally, numerous open 911 calls prior to the burning were used to determine the victim had “been held for days and raped by Medina.”
