(Palm Desert, CA) — Former Major League Baseball MVP Steve Garvey wants to work in Washington. Garvey has announced he will run for the U.S. Senate seat recently held by the late Dianne Feinstein. In a video announcing his candidacy, the 74-year-old Garvey says he is a Republican but wants to work with Democrats and Republicans to make California better.
Garvey played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1969 to 1982 before spending his final five years in the big leagues with the San Diego Padres.
He becomes one of at least 12 candidates who have announced plans to run for Feinstein’s seat after she died last month. Labor leader Laphonza Butler was appointed to the seat by Governor Newsom to finish out Feinstein’s current term.
