(Oroville, CA) — An Oroville police officer admitted to an investigator that he abandoned a woman while knowing she required urgent medical care at the time of her arrest, according to new court documents filed in an ongoing lawsuit against the city of Oroville and police officers.
The initial lawsuit claimed the woman, Dana Marie James, was hit by a car on Neal Road as a result of actions by Oroville Police Department officers to abandon her after arresting her, instead of taking her to be medically evaluated and admitted into jail. According to an amended complaint filed by plaintiffs an investigator was hired by Oroville to conduct an internal affairs investigation into the matter after James submitted a citizen’s complaint to the city.
The complaint says Officer Robert Sasek, who was named in the initial lawsuit, admitted in an interview with the investigator that he drove James to Neal Road and abandoned her while knowing she required urgent medical care.
The Oroville police department is expected to respond to the filing, Sasek remains employed by Oroville, according to the document.
