(Butte / Glenn Counties, CA) – A week after its detection in Olivehurst, officials are confirming the presence of the invasive, non-native Aedes aegypti – or yellow fever mosquito – in both Butte and Glenn Counties.
It’s the first ever detection in Glenn County, specifically Hamilton City. However, it’s the fourth consecutive year it has shown up in Butte County, found most recently in Oroville in the area of feather River and oro Dam Boulevard.
Aedes aegypti has the potential to carry and transmit yellow fever, Zika, dengue and chikungunya.
