(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito & Vector Control District along with Yuba County Public Health have issued a joint press release confirming the detection of the invasive, potentially disease-carrying Aedes aegypti mosquito in Olivehurst.
It has the potential to transmit it and the virus that cause zika, yellow fever, chikungunya and dengue, although the press release says “These viruses are not currently found in California.”
Aedes aegypti is small, an average quarter-inch long but identifiable by its dark color, with white markings, and notable because it bites aggressively during the day.
Officials are working to evaluate the extent of the infestation and target problem areas to prevent its spread.
