(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – A high speed pursuit of a Yuba City motorcyclist last Thursday afternoon ended in a backyard hot tub in Linda.
The chase began when a CHP officer attempted to pull over 24-year-old Cristobal Alejandro Barboza, who was reportedly traveling at 90 mph in a 55 mph zone, on his Harley eastbound on HWY 20, east of Marysville Road. Barboza hit the throttle, accelerating to 110 mph down Hammonton-Smartsville Road at which time the officer discontinued the pursuit.
A BOLO was immediately issued and responding officers reengaged in the pursuit east of Brophy to Griffith to North Beale, back to Hammonton-Smartsville to McLaughlin, to Oleander Lane. It was there that Barboza ditched the bike and officers were notified by a resident he had hopped a fence into a backyard.
A perimeter was established and Yuba City Police K-9 Rip did his duty and directed officers to a covered hot-tub where Barboza was hiding, in 104 degree water – with his helmet still on.
It is worth noting Barboza had a personalized plates on his Harley that read “RUN THS” with a middle finger between the two words.
