(Press Release from Butte County Administration) — Recent storms have brought multiple feet of snow to Butte County’s mountain and foothill areas, stretching local resources thin as efforts are made to plow roads and respond to emergency needs. Another winter storm is expected to impact Butte County and surrounding areas this weekend, with significant snowfall in the mountains and foothill areas. In response to the incoming storm, and keeping in mind that local resources are already stretched thin, Butte County Chief Administrative Officer, Andy Pickett, issued a local emergency proclamation. The emergency proclamation went into effect on March 2, 2023.
“Although we have blue skies right now, the incoming storm will likely have significant impacts to areas of Butte County. Issuing an emergency proclamation provides us the opportunity to request additional resources, allowing us to be better prepared, and also ensures regulations that may hinder response and recovery efforts are waived,” said Andy Pickett.
Butte County residents are urged to view this break in the weather as an opportunity to prepare for the next storm, which is anticipated to bring significant snow to the mountains, foothills, and possibly the valley floor. Homeowners are encouraged to use caution when preparing their property for additional snow that could cause property damage.
“Being prepared is important. If possible, now is the time to stock up on necessities such as food, water, medicines, batteries and fuel if needed,” said Butte County Board of Supervisors Chair, Tod Kimmelshue. Please use caution when driving, utilize 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicles and use chains when necessary. Please avoid unnecessary trips.
Butte County residents living in mountain and foothill areas need to be prepared for significant snow and potential power outages, and should have the ability to stay home for an extended period of time, if needed. Please use caution, and remember to check on your neighbors, as we weather another winter storm.
