(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – Two separate accidents with possible DUI drivers, both, at the same intersection – on the same day, Monday, one with a fatality.
The Sutter County Sheriff’s office reports the two collisions occurred at the same corner of South Walton Avenue and Camino de Flores , near Andros Karparos Middle School.
The first was early Monday morning at around 2:00 when, according to Sheriff Brandon Barns, 21-year-old Ricardo Mora-Ramirez veered off the road, hitting a tree, leaving an unidentified passenger dead.
Later on Monday afternoon – almost exactly 12 hours later – at around 2:00, Sheriff Barns reports 49-year-old Chelsea Center hit four people, including a grandmother and a 5-year-old as they were getting ready to cross the intersection on foot. He also reports the victims in both crashes are related, and that the sheriff’s office is trying to determine if there was a connection.
Several of those hit suffered severe injuries: The 5-year-old had to be life-flighted to Sacramento, but is now in stable condition, while the grandmother remains in critical condition.
Both of the drivers suspected of DUI are in the Sutter County Jail
