(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Yuba City Police Department reports the arrest of 46-year-old David Mattu after he “drove over the front lawn at the Police Department on Poole Boulevard at a high rate of speed.” He allegedly did so in a full-size pickup last Friday night at around 7:45.
An officer located the pickup around 10 minutes later in a parking lot in the 1200 block of Stabler Lane. When Mattu saw the officer he reportedly reversed his truck toward the patrol vehicle, then drove over two planter boxes east on Butte House Road. The officer gave chase and Mattu u-turned and then headed west, however he “stopped abruptly on Butte House Road, but refused to exit his vehicle.”
Stop sticks were placed near the tires of Matta’s truck which he drove over, ramming an occupied police vehicle, then crashed into a large brick sign finally disabling his vehicle. However, for another hour, Matta refused to get out of the truck. When he finally exited he was “suffering from a self-inflicted, non-life-threatening injury.”
Following medical treatment, Matta was taken to jail. No officers were injured.
