(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – With the arrival of October, you may have started seeing those ’10 for Alec Challenge’ signs popping up around Yuba-Sutter. It’s part of an annual event, honoring the life of 13-year-old Alec Flores, victim of a fatal hit-and-run in October, 2019.
The ’10 for Alec Challenge’ takes place online, as it asks participants to make a video or take pictures of themselves doing ’10 of something’ according to The Appeal-Democrat. Once a video or set of pictures is completed, it can be shared using the hashtag #10forAlec. Then, those taking part nominate someone else to do the same.
In recent years, Tara Flores, the mother of Alec and president of the sponsoring organization AFYSSC, tells the paper the challenge has raised over $80,000 in scholarships, on behalf of over 300 kids.
The online challenge is being extended for the entire month of October this year, as local sports teams have made an impact during this month in years past.
As well, the 2nd annual 10 Fun Run is set for October 8th at Yuba City High School.
