(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – In Yuba County Court yesterday, 53-year-old Todd Tyler of Browns Valley, a Yuba City School District counselor, pled not guilty to charges of criminal threats involving hate speech and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.

Tyler was arrested in February when a handgun and 2 loaded magazines were allegedly found in his vehicle’s center console. That was after charges were brought against him that he had threatened a Marysville High School softball coach because he was upset over the position his daughter played in a scrimmage. Tyler allegedly left over a dozen threatening voicemail messages on the coach’s phone, including “Look forward to splittin’ your face in half.”

Tyler is also names in a civil suit by parents of a middle school student who committed suicide.

The district placed him on administrative leave following his arrest in February.
