WEST SACRAMENTO RESTRUCTURES POLICE DEPARTMENT, SHIFTS FUNDS TO CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM

The city of West Sacramento is shifting its funds away from the police department and putting it toward a crisis intervention team.  The city has chosen not to hire five vacant police positions that were in the budget.  That money will be used for a new team called the “Community Outreach and Support Division.”  Mayor Christopher Cabaldon says the move is a proactive step in addressing people’s concerns about policing.  The division will respond to calls where an “armed response” is not needed.  West Sacramento is currently looking for a manager that will oversee the new division.
