TRIAL BEGINS FOR MERIDIAN MAN CHARGED IN DEATHS OF 2 COLUSA RESIDENTS

The trial of a Meridian man accused in the distracted driving deaths of two Colusa residents, is getting underway with jury selection already in progress.

Jacob Correia was reportedly speeding along Highway 20 when he was distracted by his cellphone back in February of 2018, reportedly colliding with 2 other vehicles. He was originally charged with 2 counts of murder in the deaths of 48-year-old Jose Velazquez-Garcia and 58-year-old Deysi Reyes, but the court dismissed those charges in May of 2019. However, The Appeal-Democrat reports Correia will be tired for vehicular manslaughter, and according to Sutter County prosecutor Diego Heimlich ‘the trial will last until the middle of next week.”
