SUTTER COUNTY CONSIDERING CALTRANS LOT FOR HOMELESS

Sutter County considering what to do about the homeless, and with Gov. Newsom making state-owned properties available for just that – A lease with Caltrans may be in the works. Specifically, of three locations, a lot along Highway 20 in Yuba City is being proposed for a parking and camping area for the homeless. The Appeal-Democrat reports, at present, Sutter County does not have such designated areas, which affects enforcement of unauthorized camping and parking.

  1. It’s good to see that Sutter County is considering doing what Governor Newsome stated in his February 19, 2020 State of the State Address. He stated, in part, he planned to make 286 state owned properties available to local officials to use for homeless shelters or services. He mentioned two properties in Sutter County: The Armory at 310 B St. and Caltrans-owned site off Colusa Highway near the Yuba Sutter Mall.
