(Sacramento, CA) — California residents did a good job in conserving power during a time of record high temperatures. California Independent System Operator officials said consumers saved enough energy yesterday to avoid rolling blackouts, or planned outages.

Officials with the state’s Office of Emergency Services sent alerts to phones before 6 p.m. that notified residents that extreme heat is straining the power grid and to turn off or reduce nonessential power.
