(Granite Bay, CA) — A Sheriff’s K-9 is home safe, after going missing in Placer County. Officials with the Sheriff’s Office posted to social media Saturday night, asking residents near Granite Bay to keep an eye for Axel, a K-9 unit who managed to get away from a sitter near Horseshoe Bar and Auburn Folsom Roads.

The pup was found sometime Sunday afternoon miles away from where he went missing. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office calls Axel, the Belgian Malinois, a “creative fella.” He’s been with the department since 2019, when the community voted to name him Axel, beating out Leo, Xander, Odin and Lincoln.
