A sizable evacuation of downtown Oroville yesterday afternoon due to a quick moving vegetation fire at Grand Avenue and Highway 70. It quickly grew to 25 acres, destroying 2 outbuildings and firefighters were concerned gusty north winds could cause it to jump the Feather River. The area south of Grand Avenue west to Highway 70, south to Oro Dam Boulevard, east to Table Mountain Boulevard, as well as Lincoln Boulevard to Long Bar Road were evacuated.
13 engines and 2 aircraft were deployed and the blaze was corralled and evacuations lifted by 4:30. No injuries reported and the cause is under investigation.
