Mosquito Fire Update, More Smoke Impact Possible

(NorCal) – In El Dorado & Placer Counties the Mosquito Fire remains 85% contained and has grown only slightly during the past 24 hours, to 76,788 acres, up 3 acres from yesterday.

The U.S. Forest Service notes we may begin experiencing more smoke impact from the Mosquito Fire again, as interior pockets of previously unburned vegetation well within the contained area of the fire’s footprint is being ignited by heavier fuels, such as large trees, which “retain heat for quite some time.”

To date, 236 miles of bulldozer line have been constructed and 23 miles of control lines have been dug by crews.
