Medicare Scam Warning from Yuba City Police Department

(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Yuba City Police Department is issuing a Medicare Open Enrollment scam alert. Open enrollment began October 15th and closes December 7th and this “is the prime time for identity thieves to target their victims” the warning states.

If you’ve already enrolled and received your Annual Notice of Change and are satisfied, there is no need to do anything. However, you’re advised to beware of anyone contacting you claiming to be an insurance company representative requesting information verification. Scammers may also claim to have supplemental insurance, “that will save you thousands.”

Beware also not only of any phone calls -but text messages, email and even regular mail are used. Email can be particularly devious, appearing to be from your employer, enticing you to click on malware-infected links, or provide personal information that can result in you becoming an identity theft victim.
