Cannabis remains controversial, at least that was the case earlier this week, during a Marysville meeting over allowing a third dispensary in the city.

There is no controversy as to the amount of tax revenue that industry has delivered to Marysville. Mayor Chris Branscum told the public meeting “Without that money, Marysville would be in a fix.” He went on to report an additional dispensary would generate around $1 to 2-million-dollars in taxes.

However, The Appeal-Democrat reports Branscum was met with opposition as Jeff Stephens said he felt that “pot… deteriorates our society …I feel like it’s not a good representation of a community.”

In spite of that, and opposition from other members of the public and some Marysville Council members, Branscum says “I won’t give up on it.”
