LIVE OAK WOMAN CHARGED WITH FAKING CANCER AND STEALING FROM FUNDRAISER

42-year-old Sara Barber of Live Oak had her first court appearance yesterday since being arrested last December on suspicion of theft by false pretenses, welfare fraud and perjury. Among the accusations: Barber said she had cancer, but did not, and took $6,500 in charitable donations from a fundraiser. She also allegedly filed for welfare using false information. Barber’s lawyer tells The Appeal-Democrat her next court appearance is scheduled for July 27th when the case “will be resolved or dates will be set for trial.”
