(Sacramento, CA) — California lawmakers are allowing government workers to hide their home addresses from public records if they fear for their safety. A bill was approved Wednesday night and it’s in response to the country’s polarizing politics and pandemic policies that have caused a spike in violent threats made against public employees.

The bill is an expansion of an existing state law that already shields the addresses of victims of domestic violence and other crimes. The legislation now heads to Governor Newsom’s desk.
