(Sutter County release) – At a groundbreaing ceremony for the planned five-acre, $3.2 million multi-use recreational park off Harter Parkway in west Yuba City this morning, the Yuba City Council dedicated the park in the name of Didar S. Bains, a pioneering Sikh farmer who immigrated to the United States with few financial resources, came to be known as the Peach King of California, formed the World Sikh Organization, and was a founding member of the Tierra Buena Sikh Temple (gurdwara). Didar was surrounded by family for the honor.

The park will include belt swings, a climbing wall, an 18,000 square foot “bike park”, a 96,000 square foot general play turfed recreational field, three disc golf goals, a 5,000 square foot basketball court, a 4,000 square foot fitness area, and a pavilion area with picnic tables, BBQ, parking for 42 cars, and bathrooms.

The park, which eventually will connect with the Sutter County Bike Trail to Sutter, is expected to be completed this fall.
