(Sacramento, CA) — An effort to fast track the gas tax bill was met with opposition from Assembly Democrats. Assembly Bill 1638 was introduced by Republican Assemblymember Kevin Kiley in January. It would have suspended the gas tax for six months.
A vote to debate the bill and suspend the tax partially responsible for high gas prices did not get a majority vote.
AB 1638 still needs to be assigned to a committee to move forward before it can formally be voted on in the Assembly.
