FORMER SUTTER COUNTY DISPATCHER AVOIDS JAIL TIME FOR EMBEZZLEMENT

The former Sutter County Sheriff’s dispatcher who pled no contest in December to felony embezzlement by fraud and making a false statement to obtain aid, is avoiding jail time.

Sara Barber of Live Oak was placed on probation yesterday and ordered to pay back a total of $9,934, including portions to Back the Badge / Yuba-Sutter and the Sutter County Firefighters Association, who held fundraisers for Barber. She claimed at the time to have cancer, but that was not the case.

Barber was also accused of filing false welfare claims and must pay back $653 to Sutter County Health & Human Services, and $2,000 to Meridian’s Fire Chief who gave her a personal donation for medical expenses according to The Appeal-Democrat.
