FIRE NEAR SIMPSON LANE LEAVES MARYSVILLE IN THE DARK

Power out in Marysville last evening, shortly after 7:00 due to a fire near Simpson Lane between Marysville and Linda. According to a statement from the Yuba County Office of Emergency Services, upwards of 6,000 residents were left in the dark as a fire burned through several power lines. PG&E crews were not able to attack the blaze initially, as the combination of fire and wind produced hazardous conditions, but efforts to repair infrastructure and to restore power were soon underway.

No official evacuations were deemed necessary, as the fire was not considered a threat to any communities. However, many in the homeless camps near Simpson Lane were seen leaving the area. Authorities reported “power will likely be out through the evening,” but as of early Friday morning, parts of Marysville already had power restored.
