CHP is investigating a double-fatal yesterday at around noon on Highway 70 just south of Olivehurst Avenue. The driver of a 1997 Honda Prelude – a 20-year-old Olivehurst man – was driving north and attempted to pass on the shoulder, hit the right side of the vehicle he was attempting to pass, lost control and hit a tree. Both he, and a 17-year-old male passenger were killed. Their names have not been released.

Meanwhile, CHP investigators say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the death of a 59-year-old Oroville man, who was killed late Monday night when he drove through the railroad crossing arms “which were down and functioning properly” according to the collision report, directly into the path of a northbound train at Clark Road just west of Highway 99 in Sutter County.

His name also hasn’t been released.
