A Yuba County spokesperson, by email, confirms to The Appeal-Democrat they were “recently the subject of a ransomware cyber attack.” No specific timeline is provided. The spokesperson says the attackers demanded payment in exchange for a decryption key, but the county paid nothing and “took immediate steps to isolate computers impacted to maintain services to our residents,” adding that “most critical servers had recoverable backups.”

They apparently hired a cyber security firm and are working directly with the state and other counties, “at this time most county provided computer services have been restored.”
