(Sacramento, CA) — California is taking action to protect pets with several new laws. Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill to end what he calls “cruel and unnecessary” testing on dogs and cats. He’s also requiring kennel owners create a natural disaster evacuation plan in order to get a permit to operate.

As for companion animals, stealing or taking one is now considered theft. And another bill expands microchip registration requirements to find lost pets.
