(Butte County, CA) – The Butte County Public Health Department has been informed by the State Department of Food & Agriculture that avian flu has been confirmed in a private flock of “about 1500 birds”: 14 of which are pheasants, the remaining 100 a mix of pigeons and ducks.

The letter informs Butte County that the birds “will need to be killed and the carcasses will need to be properly disposed of.”

Bird flu can be transmitted to humans, but only those who handle a live, infected bird, or its carcass, without proper protection and equipment.
