The Yuba Water Agency has earned a distinguished contribution award from the California Association of Science Educators for its watershed curriculum project launched last year.

The program is designed to “promote stewardship & awareness of the region’s water and natural resources” according to a press release.

Yuba Water’s curriculum project funded 45 teachers who first received Yuba River watershed training, then developed “more than 175 Yuba River focused lessens in science and other subjects areas covering grades k-12 and several community college lessens” according to the release, that meet State Next Generation Science Standards.

Going forward, Yuba Water is funding more teachers to implement the current lessons and refine the curriculum before it’s utilized throughout the county and, ultimately, building a watershed education center that’s currently in the master planning phase.
